Our Company’s legal predecessor, Tiszavidéki Vegyi Kombinát, was built in the 1950s, involving the excavation of 700,000 m3 of soil and the installation of one million m3 of material, taking four years to complete.

The beginnings: the foundation of our predecessor

Our history dates back to 1951, with the approval of an investment plan for a new power plant to be built just outside Tiszapalkonya city limits. Electric energy production then provided the basis for the installation of petrochemical facilities. In 1952, it was decided to construct a complex powered by natural gas. This facility, the Tiszavidéki Vegyi Kombinát, was to become our legal predecessor. The site selected was located in  fields around the villages of  Tiszapalkonya and Tiszaszederkény.

Large-scale construction

The huge plant was planned to be built in the River Tisza flood-basin, thus requiring large-scale landscaping. In line with the 2nd Five Year Plan, construction workers excavated 700,000 m3 of soil and installed nearly one million m3 of material over four years.

Gas, paint, plastic, fertiliser

The first operational TVK unit was the Gas Plant, designed to receive gas transmitted from Romania. The Plant, consisting of gas pipelines and a gas receipt station, came on line on October 21st  1959.

The Paint and Synthetic Resin Plant Investment Programme was drawn up in April, 1958. The plant, initially planned to be located in Kőbánya, Budapest, came on line in January, 1961. The plant's output then represented nearly 50% of domestic paint production.

After 1956, the focus switched to agriculture. To meet increasing fertiliser demand, a nitrogen fertiliser plant was built at TVK, running on Romanian natural gas. Construction of the Fertiliser Plant started in 1961 and took three years to complete.
